There’s nothing wrong with being practical, comfortable, and consistent when it comes to style choices. There’s also nothing wrong with a peanut butter sandwich, but wouldn’t you rather have a perfectly marbled steak?

Point? You can always do better. By enhancing your style, you can enrich your life in more ways than one. As hair loss specialists, we’ve seen the confidence that comes from the decision to invest in your appearance. For this reason, we want to help you complete your transformation by offering some style tips to complement that amazing head of hair.

Style is a spectrum, of course, but for guys, there are a few staples that simply cannot be avoided. First and foremost, let’s talk pants.

Think Outside the Jeans

They’re tough enough for work, decent enough for less formal occasions, and they last. Jeans are great, don’t get us wrong. They’re so great, in fact, that they’ve become seriously overplayed. As such, mixing things up in the pants department is one of the first things a man can do to subtly revamp his style in a classy manner.

Slacks are always a safe bet, but take it easy on the pleats. Pants with large pleats can cause the waste to bloat, ruining the fit.

Chinos are a great “in-between” option for men who want to upgrade from jeans without overdressing, and they also offer an opportunity to transcend the same old blue/black color scheme.

Along that vein, you can also rock linen trousers in any color imaginable these days to great effect. Since everyone’s eyes are so conditioned to jeans, your new look will be appreciated.

Go Solid (and Neutral)

Band tees and corny joke shirts are great for nostalgia or a laugh, but they tend to disrupt a look – especially if you’re working in some new colors. It’s hard for the observer to get a sense of your style when their brain is contending with clashing colors, so solids are generally better.

Not all colors are created equal in terms of their versatility, though. Consider an extreme example, like neon orange or pink. While you could make this work in a few scenarios, these colors would clash with most others. Go for neutral colors instead, like white, black, brown, beige, navy blue and grey. If you’re that guy who always clashes, consider this an easy intervention.

Tailor It at Least Once

Understandably, the majority of guys prefer to buy untailored clothing from retail stores because it is cheaper and less time-consuming. It’s impractical for most of us to have our entire wardrobes tailored, but if you get just one suit tailored, you can learn a ton about the perfect fit.

The proper fit is absolutely imperative to creating a strong look. Most prefer slightly baggy clothes for comfort, but you have to shed that mentality when it comes to suits and dressed-down shirts. It would take another five pages to break down how the lapel, shoulders, collar, waist, and so on should look, so we’ll let GQ handle this one.

Style is a reflection. The better you express it, the better you can communicate your unique value to the world around you. If your hair loss is holding that expression back for you, there’s no reason to simply give up. It’s 2019. The excuses are getting fewer and farther between.
